5G Means "Going Up the Stack"

The coming 5G network is designed to enable mobile operator moves “up the stack” (higher value within the ecosystem). Though it always is possible reality will not completely match expectations, 5G is being purpose-built to enable brand new revenue streams driven by pervasive computing (internet of things).

Other big changes: enterprises, not consumers, will drive most of the truly-new revenue sources, and most of the new accounts will be used by machines, not humans.

That, at least, is what industry insiders expect, according to a GSMA survey.
