Name Change Confirms Wi-Fi Importance, Growing Role for Fixed Wireless

The European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) "Mobile Edge Computing" group is changing its name to "Multi-Access Edge Computing" to reflect the organization's efforts to cover Wi-Fi and fixed wireless technologies as part of its specifications work

That change, as all other nomenclature changes in the telecom industry, reflect changing market realities.

Among those changes is the growing reliance on Wi-Fi as a primary network access method, as well as expectations about a growing role for fixed wireless.
