As much as 56 GHz of 5G spectrum might be needed, to support multiple service suppliers, one study of the United Kingdom by Real Wireless suggests.
As much as 200 GHz might be required on roadways, Real Wireless thinks.
Several caveats. Mobile operators always argue they need more spectrum, but everyone agrees demand is growing fast, with no limits in sight. Spectrum sharing might be essential, even if vast new amounts of spectrum are allocated
Also, nobody actually knows what apps will develop, how popular they will be, and how mobile operators will respond with the other tools they have available for increasing bandwidth.
Still, the potential amount of new spectrum to support 5G is a breath-taking number.
