No Much Hope for Rival Mobile OS Providers, As Mozilla Halts Firefox for Smartphone Effort

Scale generally matters, for a consumer service, app or platform. A few years ago, there was some hope that a new mobile operating system could gain enough traction to provide competition for Android and Apple’s iOS.

Any number of ecosystem participants, including some mobile device suppliers and some mobile service providers, had wanted such a marketplace development.

With Mozilla halting its effort to create a robust Firefox OS ecosystem, and pivoting to other connected devices, it seems that, at least for the moment, opportunities for alternative mobile operating systems are slim.
