Reliance Jio has triggered a massive change in India’s consumer mobile market, good for consumers, but just as “bad” for mobile operators, data gathered by Kotak Institutional Equities suggest. The notable change for consumers is a 41-percent drop in pricing over the past three years or so.
The notable change for incumbent mobile operators is a dramatic drop in profitability. Bharti Airtel, for example, has seen a 60-percent drop in earnings.
