Less than one percent of mobile phones sold in 2019 will be 5G devices, but that share will grow to nearly 10 percent in 2020, Strategy Analytics estimates. Within five years 5G phones will represent nearly half of all phones sold.
That does not necessarily mean the number of 5G subscriptions will match. Indeed, 5G networks will generate 26 percent of wireless service revenue in 2024, Strategy Analytics predicts.
Much hinges on handset replacement cycles and the availability of low-priced and mid-range devices. The faster the device replacement occurs, the faster 5G adoption is likely to occur.
