BT Launches 5G

One of the important elements about the coming spate of 5G network launches is how services will be priced. BT, which has just launched 5G service in 20 cities and towns, including London, Birmingham, Cardiff, Manchester, Edinburgh, Belfast, Coventry, Leicester and Bristol, offers business customers plans with 6GB, 30GB, or 60GB of 5G data usage.

There are some noteworthy pricing details. For starters, consumers will not initially be able to buy stand-alone 5G service. They can only purchase 5G in a bundle including fixed line service. So it still is not possible to determine what 5G will cost, as a stand-alone service.

BT Plus customers (bundled fixed and mobile service) can choose from four new 5G plans,  each offering double data allowances. BT Plus customers have access to 12GB, 30GB, 60GB or 200GB 5G handset plans, starting at £45 (US$57) per month.

BT Business Mobile’s 5G plans start from £35 (US$44) per month for a handset plan, or £15 per month for a SIM-only plan and include unlimited calls and texts, as well as unlimited access to BT’s 5.5 million Wi-Fi hotspots across the UK.

5G smartphones available now include the:

  • Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ 5G
  • Samsung Galaxy S10 5G
  • OnePlus 7 Pro 5G
  • OPPO Reno 5G
  • Huawei Mate 20 X
