Verizon First to Release 5G Radio Specs

Verizon Wireless, pushing to become the first U.S. mobile service provider to commercially deploy fifth generation (5G) services, has released what it says are the first 5G radio specifications in the U.S. market.

Verizon's 5G Technology Forum is the group working to define parameters for 5G specifications in advance of future standards. The new specs will allow chipset vendors, network vendors and mobile operators to develop solutions guaranteed to work on Verizon’s network.

The specs release is part of Verizon’s efforts to rapidly commercialize 5G, with testing now  underway in multiple locations in New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Texas.

Working with Verizon as part of the 5G Technology Forum are Cisco, Ericsson, Intel, LG, Nokia, Samsung, and Qualcomm Technologies.
