Tata Communications to Build Big LoRa Network

Tata Communications is building India's first Internet of Things (IoT) network, initially targeting sites in cities where 400 million people work, live or commute, starting with Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru.

Smart meters, metro stations and car parks are among the expected initial applications for the LoRa network,  it appears.

LoRa is a wireless communication technology dedicated to the IoT and machine-to-machine (M2M) communications networks.

Unlike GSM and Wi-Fi networks, the LoRa network can enable communications in deep water and up to 50 meters underground. The signal can be received after passing through up to seven walls inside buildings and has a 15-km range.
