Thailand’s planned auction of fourth generation spectrum likely will be delayed again. The new issue apparently is service provider Dtac’s offer to return its 1.8 GHz spectrum to the pool of available spectrum.
That would help create three 10-MHz block of spectrum, where formerly the plan has been to auction two blocks of 12.5 MHz each.
So far, authorities have disagreed about the timetable and the spectrum amounts. The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission has said it does not want to accept the early return of Dtac 1.8 GHz spectrum, as that would delay the start of the auctions, which NBTC prefers holding in 2016.
The 4G spectrum auction already has been delayed one year following the recent coup, and a more-recent one quarter delay ordered by the new Digital Economy board.
