The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India expects the aggressive bidding witnessed in the recently concluded spectrum sale to drive the costs of telcos by 12 percent to 15 percent.
"Cost increases will have to be passed through to the consumers in some form,” said TRAI chief Rahul Khullar.
In all likelihood, the price increases will be concentrated in voice services, since few mobile operators will want to discourage uptake of mobile Internet services that represent the greatest immediate opportunity for revenue growth.
