New Verizon 5G for $55 Plan Shows Growth of Typical Usage

A new Verizon Wireless mobile data plan--5G for $55--shows the effect of growing mobile data usage. Designed for “most” users, the new plan shows that the rules of thumb about data usage continue to change.

Verizon notes that five GB is more than data than 80 percent of users consume monthly. In other words, typical usage is between one GB and two GB per month.

But mobile data consumption keeps growing. By about 2021, the “typical” consumer might use nearly nine GB per month. Some forecasts suggest even-higher usage of perhaps 22 GB by abour 2021, in North America.

By way of comparison, Verizon’s plan for heavy users features an eight-GB bucket of usage, while the plan for moderately-heavy users features a four-GB usage allowance.
