3.2 Billion People Use the Internet Every Month, Virtually 100% by Mobile

According to International Telecommunications Union estimates, at the end of 2015, 3.2 billion people had used the internet within the previous three months, about 43 percent of the world’s total population.

That is higher than the 2.9 billion people who did so in 2014.

Significantly, most people now connect to the internet using mobile devices. The GSMA estimates there were 3.2 billion unique mobile internet subscribers in 2015.

Mobile is particularly important in the developing world. Although 2G mobile networks cover up to 96 percent of people globally, at least 1.6 billion people still live in places where mobile broadband networks (3G and 4G) are not available.
