Private Networks Often More Hype than Reality

The ability to wring value from any technology almost always lags the ability to buy it and deploy it. Consider the Las Vegas private 4G  network

Such networks often are thought of as significant for their enablement of factory automation, smart cities, advanced agriculture and other new use cases and applications.

So what will the new private 4G network be used for? Though other uses likely will be pioneered, the immediate use is a prosaic, “old school” application: internet access. The new network is being used as a fixed wireless solution to internet access for education (presumably school sites).

In many ways that is to be expected. New use cases take time to create. On the other hand, in this application, the “hype” exceeds the reality of the deployment.
