So far, according to Ericsson surveys, no 5G killer app has emerged. Of course, some might argue there was never a single killer app for 4G, either. But some new use cases might well have represented a “killer app” for 4G.
Some of us recall turn-by-turn directions being a key reason to upgrade devices and buy 4G phones. For some of us, faster speeds were the earlier killer use case when tethering our PCs on travel.
Mobile access to email was an early driver for 3G, at the device level, while mobile web was a broader justification after mobile email.
