5G Spectrum Sharing for 3.45 GHz to 3.55 GHz Band in U.S. Market

Spectrum sharing continues to feature in Federal Communications Commission plans to release more mid-band spectrum for 5G purposes. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration earlier had identified the 3.45-3.55 GHz band as suitable for spectrum sharing by 5G networks.

The NTIA furthermore has recommended possible spectrum sharing for the full 3100-3550 MHz band.

In its engineering tests, the NTIA assumed a cell radius of about 0.6 km in suburban deployments and about 0.3 km in urban deployments, using three-sector radios. For each three-sector cell site, diameter is about 1.2 km (about 0.7 miles) in suburban areas and 0.6 km in urban areas (about a third of a mile).
