Do U.S. consumers really pay the highest prices for mobile data globally? A casual glance would suggest they might, looking at the cost of a gigabyte of mobile data.
As always, one has to keep in mind that it matters which actual plans are compared. Still, posted retail prices--which might or might not be the prices consumers actually pay--might suggest the developed nation prices are higher than prices in some other parts of the world.
But matters are different when one adjusts for differences in general price levels in each country. The cost of living, for example, is highest in North America, Japan and Korea, Australia and New Zealand and Western Europe. Not surprisingly, costs for almost any product are higher in those countries, on a global basis.
Once mobile data retail prices are adjusted for local price levels, mobile data actually costs least, in real terms, in developed nations, including the United States.
