Qualcomm argues that 5G is “not just another handset upgrade cycle,” and that is at least partially true. The decrease in latency and increase in throughput, however, are fairly standard improvements for a next-generation mobile network. Since 2G, each succeeding network platform has boosted throughput at least 10 times, while reducing latency 10 times. So 5G is simply a continuation of those trends.
A case can be made that other measures of 5G performance, such as connection density, network efficiency or overall traffic capacity are advances above and beyond what has been the past experience.
