Canada CRTC Keeps Mobile Wholesale Rules in Place

The Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission has reaffirmed its “no mandatory wholesale” policy, whereby facilities-based mobile networks are not required to sell wholesale access to non-facilities-based mobile service providers (mobile virtual network operators), but CRTC also plans to revisit the issue.

Facilities-based mobile service providers may do so if they like, but most observers would say it is not in the leading mobile operators’ best interests to create much more competition by doing so.

Canadian mobile data prices are high, according to Tefficient. As you would expect, there is a causal relationship between price and usage: lower prices encourage greater usage; higher prices cause lower usage.
