Indian LTE Traffic Grows 5X Over 2015

Indian LTE traffic has grown about five times over 2015 levels, representing about 23 percent of total traffic carried over Indian mobile networks, according to a new study by TwinPrime. Most of the traffic is over HSPA 3G networks.

In 2015, traffic over LTE was minimal. Representing only about five percent of total mobile traffic.
LTE network access speeds now much faster than Wi-Fi across almost all cities in India. In Mumbai, where Wi-Fi was three times faster than LTE in 2015, LTE now is as fast as Wi-Fi. Elsewhere, 4G is faster.

In 2015, Wi-Fi outperformed LTE in most major Indian cities. In Mumbai, Wi-Fi was three times faster than LTE. In 2016, in all tested cities except Mumbai, LTE is faster than Wifi.

New provider Reliance Jio dominates all the other mobile operators in terms of LTE 4G coverage.
Looking at network quality as measured by network response times, Airtel is the best in LTE and HSPA.

Reliance is second in LTE with 17 milliseconds, BSNL is third with 21 ms slower response times.
