Despite the importance of millimeter and eventually teraHertz frequencies to support xG mobile networks, mid-band spectrum still will be important for a balance of coverage and capacity; infrastructure cost and payback models.
The problem is that, in many markets, almost all the mid-band spectrum already is allocated to existing users. Since it will not be feasible to move all existing users to new spectrum, spectrum sharing emerges as the feasible alternative in many instances for supporting existing users but also enabling xG mobile networks.
