This chart by Ookla Speedtest shows the importance of new mid-band spectrum, including C-band, for Verizon and AT&T. With its substantial lead in mid-band spectrum, T-Mobile has been able to show typical downstream speeds that significantly outperform what Verizon and At&T have been able to achieve.
Prior to the C-band auctions, T-Mobile had more spectrum available in the mid-band regions, notably about three times more than either AT&T or Verizon.
Though Verizon was the biggest winner of C-band licenses, AT&T significantly improved its mid-band spectrum position as a result of the C-band auction.
Verizon, as the major service provider with the highest need for additional mid-band spectrum, acquired the biggest amount of C-band spectrum.
Equally important, both Verizon and AT&T won the C-band spectrum that could be deployed earliest, in the “A Block.” Spectrum in the B and C blocks might take another year to be commercially available, as existing users must be moved out of the band.
