Tucows Sells Ting, Pivots to Mobile Virtual Enabler Role

Observers have noted for a decade or two the existence and possible prospects for the role of mobile service enabler, a firm that provides outsourced or wholesale services to retail mobile service providers.  Services such as billing, network element provisioning, administration or operations are commonly provided.

Now Tucows, which operated the Ting brand as a mobile virtual network operator, has decided to refocus its revenue model and become an MSE, counting Dish Network as a customer.

MVNOs have consolidated since about 2011 globally and about 2012 in the United States, perhaps among the biggest changes being the gradual entry of cable TV companies into the MVNO market.
