Cambium Networks Launches CBRS Access Service

Cambium Networks has commercialized its Citizens Broadband Radio Service CBRS SAS Services, providing CBRS users the necessary Spectrum Access System.

The Spectrum Access System is an automated frequency coordinator that manages spectrum sharing on a dynamic, as-needed basis across the three CBRS tiers of access rights, tier one incumbent users; tier 2 Priority Access License (PAL) users and Tier 3 unlicensed access.

Cambium Networks works with three SAS platforms: Federated Wireless, Google and CommScope.

The operator will select one at the time of sign up. Pricing is  $3 per Subscriber Module per month. When signing up, either credit card information or ACH (Automated Clearing House) information will be required, there will be an automated invoice charged for the prior one month period, Cambium says.

Cambium Networks is targeting an Open Beta release of PMP 450 System Software Release 16.2 on January 6, 2020. In addition, a version of cnMaestro (both Cloud and On-Premises versions) supporting CBRS Operation will also be available at this time, the firm says.

Both components are required to operate in the CBRS service (in addition to other requirements of usage of CBRS such as Certified Professional Installation (CPI) certification.

During the month of January, Cambium Networks will not charge for devices that are registered with the SAS, but fully expects to begin accruing charges on February 1st, 2020, with the first invoices being delivered and payment collected in early March, 2020.

Any device that is registered with a SAS for 24 hours or more during a billing month will be charged $3.
