1/2 of Mobile Operators Expect Active LTE-U or Equivalent by 2018

More than half of mobile operators surveyed by IHS believe they will have some form of Long Term Evolution 4G Wi-Fi access activated by 2018.

Some might argue the potential strategic import might come as new providers ponder the ability to use LTE completely in the unlicensed bands. That would be the latest potential twist in the long-standing debate about whether Wi-Fi can be a functional substitute for mobile network access.
