Vodafone and Three UK are weighing a merger of their mobile businesses in the United Kingdom, a move that would create a new challenger to BT, taking over second place in the market and jumping over present number-two provider Virgin Media O2.
At the moment, BT has about 26 percent market share, while O2 has about 19 percent share. Combining Vodafone and Three would create a new supplier with about 24 percent share.
Scale always matters in the mobile and fixed networks business.
