Though Wi-Fi 6 is relatively new, work on the Wi-Fi 7 standard already is underway, in a way similar to the early conceptual work on 6G. Though there is almost nothing we can actually know at this point about 6G, past precedent suggests the fundamental outlines will in place in about seven years.
The standards work arguably will be easier for Wi-Fi 7, simply because Wi-Fi has far fewer issues to contend with, essentially confined to which frequencies will be used, maximum data rates, security mechanisms, channel size and modulation techniques.
