The industrial internet of things is widely expected to provide early use cases for 5G, low-power wide area networks, edge computing and enterprise 5G. But many use cases also might rely on unlicensed spectrum to support industrial IoT.
The United States, for example, recently increased the spectrum available for unlicensed Wi-Fi, which is used for many industry applications. Some other countries, including Japan and Germany, have set aside 5G spectrum for industrial licensing on a local basis.
